GM,
web3lovers has not been published since the end of December.
I apologize for my absence, but the first months of the year have been very busy for me, both professionally and personally. I hope to make up for it by introducing a new feature: starting from this issue, web3lovers will be written in English to reach a wider audience.
The only content I will continue to write in Italian is WEB3 for DUMMIES, to continue spreading knowledge among Italian newbies, but I believe I will soon translate those as well.
In the meantime, if you are Italian and want to learn the basics of web3, you can read here about cos’è la Blockchain, come funziona il processo di validazione della Blockchain, cosa sono i Tokens, cosa sono gli NFT e Come acquistare e conservare un NFT. All of this will be explained in less than a thousand words.
NEWS
The Bluesky beta has launched.
The most important news of the month is certainly the beta launch of Bluesky, the web3-based social network created by Jack Dorsey, founder and former CEO of Twitter.
Bluesky was originally created as a development program by Twitter to build a more democratic platform based on web3, where users could control the algorithm. However, Twitter abandoned the project, prompting Dorsey to continue developing Bluesky independently after leaving the company he founded.
Bluesky is built on the AT Protocol, a new foundation for social networking that gives creators independence from platforms, developers the freedom to build, and users a choice in their experience.
According to a post on the social network's blog, the unique features of the Bluesky protocol include account portability, complete algorithm control, excellent performance, and interoperability.
By a stroke of luck, I was invited as one of the first 20,000 beta testers, and since its opening to Android, its audience has just surpassed 50,000.
At the moment the functionalities are simple and limited, much like the very first version of Twitter (you can write posts of 300 characters with photos, repost content from others, quote them, and give likes), but a whole range of features such as GIFs, polls, hashtags, videos, audio, and more will soon be implemented.
The revolutionary thing about Bluesky is not so much its functions, but the fact that it is designed to exist like the web, as a federation of self-managing micro-blogging platforms where everyone can do as they please. In fact, the development protocol is open source, and users can choose whether to leave their profile on the social network's server or move it to their own server.
Below are some screenshots of the Bluesky beta.
My user name is naturally mizio.bsky.social. If and when you join Bluesky, ask me for contact immediately. If you haven't yet signed up for the waitlist, then write to me: may be I should be receiving some invite codes soon.
The Rock Trading rolls to hell.
A few months after the FTX collapse, which I extensively talked about in the November newsletter, the bankruptcy of The Rock Trading, the largest Italian exchange founded in 2011 by Andrea Medri and Davide Barbieri, also happened.
What exactly happened is not known, as always in these cases, the only certainty is that the accounts of over 18,000 customers who had an account open on the platform were frozen, preventing them from withdrawing their cryptocurrencies.
Andrea Medri confessed to a bad management of the assets, while there has been no news of Davide Barbieri for months, for health reasons... meanwhile, on April 14th, the judicial liquidation of the company arrived.
Game over.
Some people I know have lost everything. I told them what I write here from the first newsletter "Not your keys, not your coins" which means never leave your cryptocurrencies on exchanges but move them to your wallets.
I also explained it quite well but simply in the fifth episode of Web3 for Dummies: Come acquistare e conservare un NFT.
EU regulates cryptocurrencies.
It's called MICA (Market In Crypto Asset) and it contains the first regulations of the European Union to ensure the traceability of crypto asset transfers.
It will become a global reference because it will be applied in 27 EU member states, which include a population of about 500 million people, or rather, the European Digital Single Market.
The articles that make it up will regulate exchanges, stablecoins, and the entities that issue them. De-Fi, on the other hand, is not part of the regulatory program, as well as NFTs.
ChatGPT reopens in Italy.
ChatGPT is now available again in Italy after the blockage following the privacy watchdog's complaint for data violation. OpenAI, the startup behind the powerful chatbot, has decided to comply with GDPR obligations and can now leverage this competitive advantage to maintain its leadership in the race for generative artificial intelligence, also in Italy.
NFT.NYC.
The most important event in the world for NFTs and Digital Art, NFT.NYC, has just ended. It took place in New York from Wednesday 12 April until Friday 14 April. Below is the official video with the highlights of the exhibition.
But as always, one of the most interesting things was the exhibition of The Medici Collection on digital billboards in Times Square.
Many artists were featured, below are photos of works by some that I particularly appreciate: Grant Yun, Beeple, Goldcat, and Tyler Hobbs.
BITCOIN & ALCOINS
At the end of the year, Bitcoin was worth $17,000, but today it's worth almost $30,000. It's undeniable that the market has recovered, but it's still too early to definitively say goodbye to the Bear Market.
Even Ether has recovered, with an increase of almost 60%, going from $1,200 at the end of the year to $1,900 on April 30th.
